Clinical Significance Dengue hemorrhagic fever and Dengue shock syndrome are caused by infection of a RNA flavivirus transmitted by a mosquito vector. Paired acute and convalescent specimens that exhibit a significant change in titer are useful to confirm clinical diagnosis of infection.
